A Visit To Tabby's Place, A Very Special Cat Sanctuary

June 12, 2018

Today I had the pleasure of visiting Tabby’s Place, A Cat Sanctuary located in Ringoes, NJ.

From the moment I entered the building, I knew I was in a special place. I have been to cage free shelters before and have even volunteered at one, but this shelter is like no other. We were immediately greeted by a kitty who had no use of her back legs, but that didn’t seem to bother her a bit. She was wearing a diaper and seemed happy as can be, getting around just fine. A volunteer quickly appeared and explained about some of the paraplegic kitties and how they came to live at Tabby’s Place. Not every cat is disabled here, but many are special needs, seniors or FIV positive. For some this is their last stop but all are adoptable to the right person. We received a tour, there are many suites of cats, plus every office and break room houses kitties as well. There are a few catios where kitties were napping on the various window perches and shelving converted to beds of various heights. There was a kitten room full of  playful juveniles waiting for their forever homes. Every room had plenty of enrichment, from boxes and cat trees to furniture to sleep on. Tabby’s Place is well organized, I was impressed at the cleaning stations and medication stations, the stainless litter boxes and industrial washers and dryers for sanitizing the bedding. There are quarantine areas for newcomers, surgery rooms and even an ultrasound on premises. There are staff veterinarians, vet techs, a feline behaviorist plus plenty of volunteers to keep everything running smoothly. Cats all seem to get along beautifully, it was obvious that they were matched up perfectly by personality from suite to suite.

I was impressed enough to make the decision to become a sponsor of this amazing home to so many beautiful cats. We are proud to support the efforts of Tabby’s place and if you are interested in visiting, adopting, supporting or volunteering, please visit www.tabbysplace.org.
